Oncology Specialist Teams Up With Cedars-Sinai

Newport Beach-based Integrated Oncology Network Holdings’ treatment center in Beverly Hills will be fully incorporated into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a nonprofit 886-bed academic medical center in Los Angeles. The 8,500-square-foot facility at 8929 Wilshire Blvd. will be staffed by Cedars-Sinai physicians and clinical staff, while Integrated Oncology will provide nonclinical services.

“Everything is moving toward value-based care, [and in] oncology there’s a movement to bundling of payment,” said Integrated Oncology Chief Executive Jeffery Goffman. “You have to manage the oncology [patients] and provide the appropriate care, including chemotherapy, surgery, radiation or all of the above. Moving towards bundling means moving to a provider who’s cost-efficient, and we think it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to align with Cedars[-Sinai].”

Cedars-Sinai already offers radiation oncology at its main hospital campus at 127 S. San Vicente Blvd. in Los Angeles, as well as through an affiliation with Angeles Clinic and Research Institute in Santa Monica.

Integrated Oncology owns 21 radiation cancer centers across the U.S. and is in the process of linking its free-standing operations with larger medical centers and hospitals through collaborations. It has struck deals with seven medical centers. Integrated Oncology’s Lubbock, Texas, location agreed to collaborate with Covenant Health’s Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center there last year.

Covenant Health is part of Irvine-based St. Joseph Health, which operates St. Joseph Hospital-Orange; St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton; and Mission Hospital, which has campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. St. Joseph Health and Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health and Services merged in July. St. Joseph also has a partnership with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian—a regional delivery network called St. Joseph Hoag Health, which was created in 2012.

Integrated Oncology has approximately 300 employees and 250 affiliated physicians throughout its network. Goffman said the company had more than $60 million in revenue last year.
