Sunwest Bank Expands in Colorado

Acquires branches from Nicolet National Bank

Sunwest Bank, which has major operations in Irvine, announced it will acquire branches of MidWestOne and Bank of Denver from Nicolet National Bank. Terms were not disclosed.

This acquisition furthers Sunwest’s expansion in Colorado, where it initially launched in 2025.

“The acquisition of the former Bank of Denver and MidWestOne branches is a significant milestone for our growth in Colorado,” Sunwest Bank President Carson Lappetito said in a statement. “We are investing heavily in Denver and look forward to delivering the exceptional customer experience we are known for to entrepreneurs and clients in Denver and throughout the state of Colorado.”

While technically headquartered in Sandy, Utah, Sunwest’s principal offices are in Irvine where it has 116 employees. It has $1.9 billion in deposits in Orange County, ranking it No. 14 on the Business Journal’s list of commercial banks with operations here.
