Xperience Closes Acapulco in Downey, Down to 2 Locations

Xperience Restaurant Group (XRG) permanently closed its Acapulco restaurant in Downey this month, impacting 49 employees, according to state employment filings.  

The Cypress-based restaurant operator is down to two Acapulco restaurants in its portfolio, which also includes Las Brisas in Laguna beach, Sol Mexican Cocina and El Torito.  

When Xperience filed for bankruptcy in 2011, operating as Real Mex Restaurants Inc. at the time, Acapulco had gone from 32 to 18 locations, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal.  

XRG, backed by Z Capital Group LLC, counts 56 restaurants in total across 11 brands and previously had a goal to reach 100 in the U.S. In 2022, it had 61 locations. 

In January, Z Capital Group combined Xperience Restaurant Group with Pink Taco and Mrs. Fields to form a new organization called Apex Hospitality that oversees all restaurant and entertainment operations under one umbrella. It is managed by Affinity Interactive.
