OC’s Advantages

With a move to larger Irvine headquarters on the docket for 2020, Alteryx Inc. is expected to see an already rapid hiring push continue in Orange County.

The move comes as economists have lamented the lack of tech-focused job growth in OC of late, especially when compared to Silicon Valley (see story, page 1).

Alteryx Chief Operating Officer Scott Davidson, though, praises the local scene over Silicon Valley to the north.

“It’s exceedingly difficult to find people to hire and scale in that location,” he said of Silicon Valley, adding it’s also more expensive to operate in the Valley.

“Here, it’s a little bit of a sweet spot,” Davidson said.

He explains of the OC advantages:

“You’ve got a better quality of life in many respects. You can [travel to] the Valley if you need to be from a partnership or customer perspective quite easily. You have an ability to recruit from probably a more diversified set of industries than just pure tech, which I think is beneficial.”

Davidson said his Silicon Valley background will help guide Alteryx here.

“A large part of what I look forward to being here is to provide that guidance and some of the steady hand with the rest of the team and bring everybody along for that ride.”

He said Alteryx will be “thinking adroitly, moving fast and scaling the business.”

“We are in a competitive market. We are the leader,” he said. “We want to continue to distance ourselves as being the leader.”

“I’m fired up to be here,” he said.
