The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 0.2% to 2.05%.
The price of gold was up 0.7% to $1,146.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. was down 2.6% to $145.42 and a $16 billion market cap. The heart valve maker’s shares were hurt by a U.S. Food and Drug Administration warning in the Journal of the American Medical Association that aortic heart valves made from animal tissue could develop blood clots and malfunction.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. was down 2.5% to $49.79 and a $30 billion market cap. A competitor in some of its markets, Skyworks Solutions Inc., announced an acquisition that pulled down both the OC chipmaker and its acquirer, Avago Technologies Ltd. Avago was down about 5%. Broadcom shares had traded by midday at a rate 40% higher than its 90-day average.
