Major indices were up strongly in midday trading.
The S&P 500 rose 2% to 1,904.99. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.1% to 15,992.01. The Nasdaq rose 2.1% to 4,601.36.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 1.6% to 2.17%.
The price of gold was down 1.1% to $1,126.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. was up 4% to $49.07 and a $29.8 billion market cap. The chipmaker’s shares were trading at a moderately high-volume and some share-price measurements were said to be positive by stockwatchers.
RETAIL
Irvine-based Tilly’s Inc. was up 7.4% to $8.16 and a $231.4 million market cap. The apparel retailer reports earnings after markets close today.
Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. was up 25% to 75 cents and a $52.2 million market cap. The apparel retailer doesn’t report quarterly earnings until Tuesday, Sept. 8 but its share price is up about 60% on high volume over the last two trading sessions.
