The S&P 500 was up 0.9% to 2,064.26.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.9% to 17,672.79.
The Nasdaq also was up 1% to 4,961.76.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 3% to 2.27%.
The price of gold was down 0.1% to $1,162.
TECHNOLOGY
Aliso Viejo-based QLogic Corp. shares were down 22.7% during midday trading to $10.81 a share and a market capitalization of $1.2 billion. The company, which makes networking connectivity product, today reported preliminary financial results for its June quarter that included lower-than-forecasted revenue and earnings.
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. saw its shares trade up 17.8% to $6.55 apiece and a market capitalization of $589 million. The Newport Beach-based supplier of compressed natural gas fuel said its refuse business is continuing to expand and that it completed 14 station construction projects in the first half of the year for use by major regional and national waste companies.
