Last week the Business Journal highlighted new incubators on the Orange County block. Following are updates on their portfolio companies:
BLD Capital
• LEAN makes patented longboards that are lower to the ground, making them better suited for long-distance pushes and smooth riding. It recently launched a partnership with Huntington Beach-based Madrid Skateboards, which makes its decks, and will soon launch a shortboard.
• Immersive, multiplayer virtual reality developer BlueAtom VR launched VR ThrillZone, a system with immersive patent-issued haptic floor and haptic vests. Haptic technology adds the sense of touch to the virtual reality experience by applying forces, motions or vibrations.
The location-based VR gaming arena comes with four-player quadrants, each contacting a headset and haptic floor that allow players to feel every explosion and impact. Four custom games have been developed, and unit sales to movie theaters have begun.
BlueAtom is seeking $500,000 in equity funding.
• Keezel makes a portable product that uses VPN technology to provide a secure internet link to connected devices, including laptops and smartphones. It recently closed a $1.2 million funding round. The product is available on Amazon and is being tested by Target and Best Buy.
Adventus Ventures
• Allevion Therapeutics develops wearable device Allevex, which is designed to reduce hand and leg tremors caused by essential tremor, a nervous system disorder. It plans a $10 million series A funding this year.
• Cerebral aneurysm treatment-focused Temari Medical has secured an undisclosed seed funding to complete early-stage development. It plans to raise a $7 million series A funding later this year.
• ZED Medical develops intrabody imaging and tracking to guide a variety of minimally invasive catheter-based interventions. It plans a series A round next year to support product commercialization; the sum is undisclosed.
