Irvine-based real estate investment trust Griffin-American Healthcare REIT III Inc. recently said it spent $311.3 million on 18 properties in the three months ended June 30.

It owns a range of healthcare real estate, including medical office buildings.

The real estate investor bought 12 senior housing facilities and six medical office buildings in eight states.

Its largest deal on the senior housing side was for six communities in northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan with 653 rental units and 417,000 square feet of space. The REIT said the communities are all private-pay and have an average occupancy of 85%.

It also bought two senior living communities with 220 rental units and 282,000 square feet of space in Omaha and Bennington, Neb., and a three-building property with 345 rental units and a 260,000-square-foot portfolio in Bethlehem, Boyertown and York, Pa.

The deals included three medical office buildings totaling 99,000 square feet in the Philadelphia suburb of Paoli, Pa.; a 76,000-square-foot, six-story medical office building in Glen Burnie, Md.; and a 41,000-square-foot medical office building in Marietta, Ga.

Griffin-American has built “a diverse portfolio of real estate and real estate-related assets valued in excess of $940 million, based on aggregate purchase price,” Danny Prosky, the REIT’s president and chief operating officer, said in a news release.

It is sponsored by American Healthcare Investors and Griffin Capital Corp.
