Chapman University announced the opening of a research center focusing on biopsychosocial approaches to health.
The Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Center of Excellence in Biopsychosocial Approaches to Health is the first “center of excellence” in Chapman’s 2-year-old Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, and is on the main campus in Orange.
It takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding health and well-being, according to the school. Chapman calls it a “center of excellence” because it provides leadership, best practices, research and support for a specific area of focus.
“The unifying focus of [the center] is to examine the combined effects of biology, psychology and social context on psychological and physical health,” said Janeen Hill, founding dean of Crean College.
The center is committed to research that advances basic science and has implications for public policy. It plans to make findings from its research available to the public to help improve general understanding of health and science.
The center will be formally inaugurated on Oct. 24 with a lecture by Dr. Ted Robles of the University of California-Los Angeles.
