Ease of access through same-day delivery is broadening Blüm’s reach.
The medical cannabis company, with six locations in California and Nevada, is part of Irvine-based Terra Tech Corp. (OTCQX: TRTC) whose portfolio of cannabis-related brands include IVXX Inc., Edible Garden, and MediFarm LLC.
Blüm, also based out of Irvine, currently has 254 workers.
Blüm’s push into delivery for consumers covers a 20-mile radius from its Santa Ana retail location on Tech Center Drive—a new facility is being built nearby—and includes two unmarked delivery vehicles.
The service area could grow as the company adds more vehicles to its fleet.
Blüm Creative Marketing and Branding Manager and co-founder Amy Oppedisano said the new service offerings answer an accessibility issue that allows the company to now cover most of Orange County.
Oppedisano is also co-founder of Terra Tech.
“We did anticipate that it would be some of the farther locations like Laguna Beach [using delivery], where it’s really hard for someone in Laguna or Huntington to go all the way to Santa Ana for this one errand,” Oppedisano said.
“I’m a working mom. It’s very difficult to go 20, 30 minutes out of your way.”
Oppedisano pointed out cannabis delivery service is nothing new and has been offered on the black market prompting the next generation of industry companies to step up with their own door-to-door service to compete, while also pushing quality and elevated branding as their competitive advantages (see news on MyJane, page 12).
Social Media Stars
Blüm typically leans heavily on digital and social channels for marketing and more recently began a push on grassroots marketing, beginning with a focus on the senior and baby boomer communities in a bid to provide information and education via public speaking and partnerships with doctors.
“I think as marketers of this product in particular, it’s more important that we’re educators than sales people,” Oppedisano said.
