Up to 250 high school students will begin intensive math and science training at UC Irvine this summer. The goal of the COSMOS (California State Summer School for Math and Science) program is to motivate the state’s most academically talented students toward business and higher education sectors.
Students begin the month-long program July 5 at UC Irvine. Areas of study include astronomy, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, engineering, mathematics, ocean and marine sciences and physics.
UC Santa Cruz, which is offering a similar program, and UC Irvine share $1 million in state funds for their respective programs. Students pay a $1,000 fee and need-based scholarships are available.
