UCI Business School Launches Endowment
The Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine, has launched the Judy B. Rosener Endowed Scholarship Fund, started by school alums Darcy and Richard Kopcho.
On Sunday, the school held a fund-raising dinner in Rosener’s honor in a bid to add to the original endowment of $200,000. Rosener is a professor at UCI’s business school and an author on workplace, diversity and cultural issues.
Scholarships from the fund are set to go to students with an interest in gender and cultural diversity issues in the workplace. Recipients also must show they have overcome personal and economic obstacles prior to being admitted to Graduate School of Management.
Experience in public service and a solid academic track record also are required.
Friends of Rosener already have added more than $65,000 to the original gift, according to the business school.
Darcy Kopcho received her master’s in business administration from UCI in 1980 and now is an executive vice president at Los Angeles-based mutual funds manager The Capital Group Cos.
“Rosener practically kicked me out the door and told me, ‘You can do it,'” Kopcho said.
Kopcho’s husband, Richard, also earned his MBA from UCI.
Darcy Kopcho said she wants the scholarship to help students who can’t afford a graduate education. She also said she wants scholarship recipients to have an interest in community service.
