Turnaround Darling Wet Seal Warns About December Sales

The dramatic turnaround at Wet Seal Inc. saw a hiccup on Wednesday as the Foothill Ranch-based retailer lowered its projected growth in December same-store sales.

Wet Seal, which runs mall stores catered to teen girls and young women, said it now sees sales at stores open at least a year coming in 1% to 3% higher in December vs. a year earlier.

Earlier, Wet Seal projected a gain in the low to mid-single digits.

In November, same-store sales at Wet Seal rose 5.5%, following a 7.5% rise in October.

The company’s shares closed down around 3% and slipped nearly 6% in afterhours trading.

Wet Seal has been on a tear for the past couple of years after stumbling earlier this decade.

The company operators some 425 stores,333 Wet Seals and 92 Arden B. stores.
