OC Marathon
On Jan. 8 the Orange County Marathon attracted 13,000 runners, thousands of volunteers and the participation of hundreds of local charities and businesses.
Somehow the Los Angeles Times’ so-called Orange County edition had no coverage of the marathon. This failure by the Times to cover major events in our county marginalizes the paper and discourages readership. This ends up rendering what they do cover irrelevant in informing the Orange County community and in promoting a vigorous public discourse because fewer and fewer people are getting their news from the Times.

University Idol
Regarding your 2007 prediction that “Jim Doti and Michael Drake will compete in the televised finals of University Idol,” all I can say is, “Let the competition begin!”
Since UCI is bereft of an appropriate venue, I suggest the show be written, produced and directed at Knott Studios, the incredible home of the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.

Troop Surge
Even before President Bush delivered his televised address last week, several GOP members of Congress were calling his plan, to surge or not to surge U.S. troops in Iraq, DOA. Will this latest surge of combat personnel succeed when previous attempts have failed? I don’t own a crystal ball, but my guess is no. In fact, I’ll go one step further and say, “Mr. President, surgely you jest.”
