Raytheon’s Fullerton group will work on a German air-traffic system

Raytheon Co. has been awarded a $20 million air traffic system contract from Germany’s Deutsche Flugsicherung GMBH with about 10% of the work set to be done at the company’s Fullerton facility.

Under the contract, which runs through 2003, the Fullerton group is set to develop a radar data system to be used as a fallback if the primary air traffic control system fails. Deutsche Flugsicherung is the state-owned operator of Germany’s air traffic system.

Raytheon employs approximately 1,100 software and technical engineers in Fullerton, of which 70 will be working on the fallback system, known as TracView, according to a spokeswoman.

As part of the project, Raytheon is set to deliver a complete air traffic management system for installation into Germany’s air traffic control center.

The Fullerton facility has been providing systems to the Deutsche Flugsicherung since 1991.
