Sherwin to Lead Newport Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau

Visitor industry veteran Gary Sherwin was named executive director of the Newport Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau.

He replaces Marta Hayden, who resigned in the fall.

Sherwin took the reins on the eve of the Newport Beach Film Festival and just in time to craft a new budget and marketing program for the 2006-07 fiscal year.

He most recently was president and chief executive of Palm Springs-based Believable Brands LLC, a destination strategy and development consulting company.

Prior to starting Believable Brands, he was vice president of market development for the Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority. He previously worked for Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau and LA Inc., The Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Sherwin knows Orange County. He has lived in Huntington Beach. He regularly vacationed in Newport Beach during the summer with his wife and two daughters.

“Newport has everything you need in a destination,” he said. “My aim is to develop enhanced marketing.”

Sherwin sits on the board of the California Travel Industry Association and is a lecturer for Destination Marketing Association International.

He and his family will move to Newport Beach.
