Dobyns Joins American Security Bank

Longtime banking veteran Tom Dobyns has been named president and chief operating officer of Newport Beach-based American Security Bank.

Dobyns said his biggest challenge is to “remain focused” during a tough time for banks.

American Security Bank is the third-largest bank based in the county with assets of $455 million as of December. Most of its lending is for commercial real estate.

Like other banks, American Security has been setting aside cash to guard against losses on loans.

Dobyns has held a long career in banking, holding various positions with Bank of America Corp., First Interstate Bancorp, Great Western Savings & Loan, Home Savings of America and Fullerton Community Bank.

In 1998, he started his own managerial and leadership consulting firm, Enthusiology.

Dobyns attended the University of Southern California, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business.

He lives in Laguna Hills with his wife Renee. The couple has been married for 34 years and has two grown children.

Dobyns enjoys playing golf and racing his Corvette at Auto Club Speedway of Southern California in Fontana.
