Essex Realty Management Names Senior VP
Michael Grabendike, a longtime local real estate marketing professional, has been selected by Essex Realty Management of Costa Mesa as its new senior vice president.
The former Los Angeles district manager and senior vice president for Grubb & Ellis Co. will be responsible for Essex’s development and acquisitions activities as well as securing capital and marketing new projects.
“I made this move because I was looking for a smaller environment with greater flexibility,” said Grabendike. “I also wanted to return to Orange County.”
The initial 17 years of his career was spent in the local market. He started with Newport Beach-based Industrial Brokers in 1980. Four years later, Grabendike became manager of sales and marketing for The Irvine Company’s Irvine Spectrum project.
In Orange County, he has also worked as vice president of Irvine-based TriQuest Development Co. and as director of marketing for Koll Development.
Grabendike joined Grubb & Ellis in Los Angeles two years ago and before that was a founding partner of TG Properties in Long Beach.
“It’s time to come back home,” he said. “I learned a lot with Grubb & Ellis, but I hope to use those experiences to help further my career in Orange County.”
Grabendike and his wife, Carrie, have five children.
The 40-employee Essex manages more than 5 million square feet of commercial and industrial properties in Southern California. It also has a development portfolio of more than 4.5 million square feet of real estate.
“It’s going to be a great challenge,” said Grabendike. “We’re going to be aggressively looking at more acquisitions and diversify in several different directions.”
