OC Home Prices Up Slightly in March, Sales Lag

The median price of an Orange County home rose slightly in March to $629,000, but the market again saw slow sales compared to a year earlier.

The median price of a home sold here rose $9,000 from February to March, and now stands 0.6% higher than the $625,000 price seen a year ago, according to La Jolla-based DataQuick Information Systems, a unit of Canada’s MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates.

February had seen a 0.4% drop in year-over-year prices, the first decline here in nearly a decade.

Prices now stand about 2% below the county’s record high, set in June.

Sales improved from February, but still lag behind year-ago levels. There were 3,130 homes sold here in March, a 28% increase from February. Last month’s results were still 26% below March 2006 sales levels.
