Israel Claustro-Hernandez of Pomona and Wahid Guirguis of Diamond Bar, law students at Western State University College of Law, received $4,000 Scott McCune Memorial Scholarships. Mindy Kennedy of Covina, a third-year law student at Western, also received the scholarship from the Orange County Legal Foundation.
David Blanke, a senior account executive with the Southern California Gas Company, was named “Volunteer of the Year” by the Building Industry Association of Southern California. The award is part of a program that recognizes whose exceptional dedication and spirit of volunteerism have been deemed exemplary by the directors of each of 12 affiliated councils and regions.
Jami Goldman, Mark Wellman, Erik Weihenmeyer and Brad Parks, four nationally known athletes with disabilities, received the Walter Knott Service Award by Goodwill Industries of Orange County. They were recognized for their outstanding contributions to improve quality of life for disabled people.
Charles Kao, Robert D. Maurer and John MacChesney received the Charles Stark Draper Prize from Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Inc. and the National Academy of Engineering. The Prize, one of the engineering profession’s highest honors, is awarded for an innovative engineering achievement or for a body of work extending over a period of years that contributes to human welfare and freedom.
Steve Bein, Brian Hixson, Kevin McHugh, Karen Selleck, Glenn Lajoie, John Nagle, Harry Shore, Kevin Thomas and Pat Tomi were appointed stockholders of Robert Bein, William Frost & Associates. Tomi is from the Walnut Creek office and the rest are from the Irvine office. They were selected for their dedication, hard work and expertise in their respective fields.
Margie Hilgenfield, Anaheim; Sharon Smith, Buena Park; Cindy Warren, Cypress; Wanda Leyes, Garden Grove; Ron Burford, La Palma; Don Bedard, Los Alamitos; and Rick Muth, Stanton were honored by the Cypress College Foundation at the 25th Annual Cypress College Americana Night at the Disneyland Hotel. The honorees were selected for there contributions to the foundation.
