Irvine-based Snyder Langston’s Dave West was named Superintendent of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association Los Angeles/Orange County chapter. The award, presented at the group’s 10th annual awards banquet, recognized West for upholding the interests and safety of subcontractors. Snyder Langston recently completed construction of the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim.
Builder & Developer magazine honored Tim Kane as 2007 Builder of the Year. Kane is president of Irvine-based MBK Homes Ltd., part of Japan’s Mitsui & Co. Kane credits a great deal of success to the hiring of a quality control manager who was at construction sites.
State Sen. Tom Harman received the Leadership in Conservation Award for 2007. The award is presented by the California Outdoor Heritage Alliance and recognizes Harman’s strong support and defense of the Second Amendment, hunting and science-based wildlife conservation. Additionally, Harman was named Legislator of the Year by the Southern California chapter of the Coalition of Probation Organizations and Concerned Women for America of California.
The Orange County Medical Association named Brian Solow one of the county’s Physicians of Excellence. He recently joined Prescription Solutions, a Costa Mesa unit of Minnesota’s UnitedHealth Group Inc., as vice president and medical director for clinical programs. He formerly was medical director for quality improvement for Bristol Park Medical Group. Solow is a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.
The National Veteran-Owned Business Association named Larry Broughton “Vetrepreneur” of the Year. Broughton is founder of Newport Beach-based Broughton Hospitality Group. He founded the hotel management company in 2001 and has plans to expand his dozen boutique hotels by acquiring six more in California and Bali, Indonesia.
Irvine-based Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. received top honors in the BERTL Readers’ Choice 2007 awards for the third straight year. Toshiba was recognized by the publication for outstanding product and service leadership with five Platinum Awards and two Gold Awards.
The U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship selected Chapman University’s Entrepreneurship Program for its Innovative Pedagogy Award. Pradip K. Shukla leads the program from the Argyros School of Business and Economics. The Excellence in Education Awards are sponsored by Students in Free Enterprise.
Eureka, the California Career Information System honored Lea Beth Lewis for outstanding achievement in career development. Lewis is assistant dean for student affairs in California State University, Fullerton’s College of Health and Human Development. She received the Leigh Robinson Award during the 24th annual Career Development Conference.
The city of Anaheim Public Utilities Department received a Run Smarter Award from Long Beach-based Compulink Management Center Inc.’s Laserfiche. The award recognizes groups that have been successful in solving information management challenges. Using Laserfiche software, the Utilities Department digitized and indexed hundreds of boxes of paper files containing blueprints, memos and work orders. Anaheim also was honored with an Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society. The award recognized the city’s West Anaheim Police Station and Youth Center.
Anaheim added a new star to its Walk of Stars in honor of the historic Yorba family. The family was among early settlers of Spanish California.
The Association of Image Consultants International granted Diana Jennings its Certified Image Professional designation. The designation signifies her credibility as an image consultant. Jennings is based in Irvine and is president of Brand You Image. She is president of the Southern California chapter of the Association of Image Consultants International.
The Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce honored several people at its annual awards celebration. Lauri and Allen McLean were recognized as Business of the Year for their Sir Speedy Printing & Copy Center. Joint Forces Training Base Commander Brig. Gen. James P. Combs was named Man of the Year. Executive Director of Casa Youth Shelter Luciann Maulhardt was honored as Woman of the Year. Julie Lusk of Los Alamitos High School was recognized as Teacher of the Year.
Brian R. Carruthers was added to the Paladin Registry LLC and awarded Paladin’s Five Star quality designation. Carruthers is founder and owner of Brian Carruthers & Associates and is a certified financial planner. He is a chartered market technician and a member of the National Association of Active Investment Advisors. The Paladin Registry helps investors select advisers.
