Jeffrey C. Joy and John J. Giovannone were named to the list of Best Lawyers in America 2008 by American Lawyer magazine. Joy handles tax litigation issues, specializing in trusts and estates. Giovannone handles corporate litigation and specializes in mergers and acquisitions law. Both work for Greenberg Traurig LLP in Irvine.

Three California State University, Fullerton alumni received Apple of Gold Awards from the Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment Fund. The honorees were Susan Balas, John C. Hernandez and Sharon Quirk. Balas teaches at Loara High School in Anaheim. Hernandez is vice president of student services at Santiago Canyon College in Orange. Quirk is a Fullerton City Councilwoman and teaches at Richman Elementary School in Fullerton.

S3 received four Davey Awards for work completed for clients BMW of North America, CMYK Printing, Eight O’Clock Coffee and Seiko USA. The Davey Awards celebrate creative work and are judged by the International Academy of Visual Arts. S3 is an advertising, marketing and public relations agency with an office in Irvine.

KTGY Group Inc., an architecture and planning firm in Irvine, won several awards for five of its newest housing projects. It received the Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Grand Award for its Royal Court project in Morgan Hill. Additionally, KTGY received the Grand SAM Award for Best Overall Project for the company’s sales, advertising and marketing of City Square in Escondido.

American Electronics Association, known as AeA, awarded State Sen. Tom Harman, R-Huntington Beach, with its 2007 OC High-Tech Legislator of the Year Award. The award recognizes Harman’s contributions to support the recovery of the high-tech industry in California during the 2007 Legislative Session.

The OC Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored David O. Team with its Good Scout Award. The award recognizes individuals who exemplify the daily life ideals of the Boys Scouts as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. Team is president of LNR Property Corp.

Axis Technical Group Inc. was named a Microsoft Gold Level Certified Partner in three key disciplines. They are Custom Development Solutions, Data Management Solutions and Networking Infrastructure Solutions. Axis Technical Group offers custom software and database development to its clients and has an office in Anaheim.

Joan Gladstone was elected to the Public Relations Society of America College of Fellows. Gladstone is president and chief executive of Gladstone International in Laguna Beach. Election to the College of Fellows is based on lifetime achievement

and is awarded to senior practitioners

and educators.

Wycliffe Associates president and Chief Executive Bruce Smith was named Alumnus of the Year by LeTourneau University. He was nominated by peers. LeTourneau University trains and equips students to be leaders in ministry, business, education and industry.

Six University of California, Irvine faculty members were elected fellows for the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Donald R. Blake, Robert M. Corn, Scott D. Rychnovsky and Athan J. Shaka work in the Department of Chemistry at UC Irvine. Michael T. Goodrich is in the computer science department and Jean-Luc Gaudiot works in electrical engineering and computer science departments.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the Nobel Peace Prize for its work to alert the world to global warming. UCI climate scientists played a role in writing, reviewing and editing IPCC climate change reports over the last decade. They were: Michael Prather, Donald Blake, Michael Goulden, Dudrun Magnusdottir, James Randerson, Susan Trumbore, Charlie Zender, Jin-Yi Yu and Soroosh Sorooshian.

Knobbe Martens Olsen & Bear in Irvine was ranked third nationally for the highest number of minority equity partners in an annual survey conducted by Diversity & The Bar magazine. The survey ranks firms across the U.S. based on their percentage of minority equity partners. The lawyers at Knobbe Martens are involved in organizations

that support professionals.
