KOCE Settles With Daystar, Set to Stay Public Station

Public TV station KOCE of Huntington Beach has settled a lawsuit filed by televangelist Daystar Television Network, which has sought to buy the station.

Neither side is talking about the settlement. KOCE only said “the KOCE-TV Foundation will continue to own and operate KOCE-TV as a PBS member station.”

The issue dates back to 2002, when the Coast Community College District, which has owned KOCE, decided to put the station up for sale.

Dallas-based Daystar bid $25 million for the station.

In 2003, the college district sold the station to the KOCE Foundation, which pledged to keep it as a public TV channel. The deal was valued at $19.5 million to $23.5 million.

The sale sparked a legal fight with Daystar, with courts twice invalidating the sale to the foundation but refusing to award the station to Daystar.
