Costa Mesa’s Irvine Sensors Corp., which makes stacked chip assemblies, miniature cameras and night-vision goggles, said Wednesday it widened its loss during the three months ended July 1.
The company lost about $5 million, up from $2 million a year earlier.
Irvine Sensors said it took a hit in profits because of a debt refinancing program put into effect at the end of last year.
Sales were about $10 million, up 11% from a year earlier.
The company said revenue got a boost from completely buying out Optex Systems Inc., which Irvine Sensors bought a 70% stake in back in 2005 for $14 million.
It spent a total of $18 million at the end of last year to buy the rest of Optex, according to company filings.
The division, which makes sighting systems that are used in most military land vehicles, is a bright spot for Irvine Sensors.
Earlier this year, the Richardson, Texas-based unit said it scored more than $9 million in contracts from the government.
