Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach raised $400,000 at its Christmas Carol Ball. The money will be used for the Hoag Neurosciences Center. The Christmas Carol Ball executive committee and 552 Club sponsored the black-tie event. Live auction items included a vehicle donated by Sterling BMW, a trip to the Masters Golf Tournament and a vacation at the Grand Suite at the Palms in Las Vegas.
The Dana Point Ocean Institute’s Sand Dollar Guild raised $65,000 at its December fashion show. The event featured a fashion show by San Juan Capistrano women’s apparel store The Carved Horse.
The Building Industry Association of Orange County raised $28,000 for the Building Industry Technology Academy. The academy is a high school program that introduces students to the building industry.
The Prentice School in Tustin received $25,000 from the Opus Foundation to support the school’s Scholarships for Diversity program. The program provides scholarships for students with dyslexia.
Succession Capital Alliance President Julian Movsesian presented a $25,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County at the nonprofit’s annual gourmet dinner fundraising event. The dinner raised $412,365 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.
Costa Mesa nonprofit Share Our Selves raised $21,895 at its Adopt a Family Festival of Trees. The event featured 26 specially designed Christmas trees up for purchase at a silent auction.
The Angels for the Arts at Saddleback College received grants from the cities of Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo. Laguna Niguel donated $5,000 to support the Professional Guest Artist Series’ programs, which allow the school to offer master classes and workshops. Mission Viejo gave $4,500 to support the same program and an additional $2,500 for the Passport to the Arts summer children’s program.
Center for Hope and Healing raised $5,000 at its Brain-Wise Book Launch celebration. The Bacchus Society and the Landmark Restaurant in Corona del Mar and its executive chef, Sabre Kennedy, helped sponsor the event. Donations will support mental health counseling programs to treat and prevent the effects of abuse, neglect and emotional trauma in local families.
Ladera Ranch-based nonprofit Laura’s House received a $2,500 donation from Body Awareness Physical Therapy Inc. in Costa Mesa and San Clemente. The money will buy a craft table, kid-sized chairs and two baby cribs for the childcare room at Laura’s House’s counseling and resource center.
Tustin Ranch resident Mike Kaloian raised $1,560 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County at his Huntington Beach volleyball tournament. Kaloian is an operations manager of a local graphic arts company.
American First Credit Union representatives collected 50 bags of clothes for the Village of Hope Warehouse and 450 items of food for the Orange County Food Bank. The donations were for wildfire victims.
Volunteers and members of Miracles for Kids gathered food and toys to distribute to needy families during the holiday season. Pacifica Foods LLC in Corona and Red Rock Security & Cabling Inc. in Irvine donated their facilities for gift basket assembly. Delivery trucks were donated by Ryder System Inc. and fuel paid for by General Petroleum Inc.
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach repaired its roof with labor and material donations from Gallo Corp., Newport Roofing Inc., OC Metals Inc. and S & G; Wholesale Roofing Supplies Inc.
Huntington Beach-based Charo Chicken Systems Inc. gave 2,500 pounds of chicken to the Orange County Rescue Mission in Tustin. Charo Chicken owners Moe Bonakdar and Ray Perry oversaw delivery along with Bill Riemer, Rescue Mission’s vice president of operations.
Irvine-based Local.com Corp. raised 850 pounds of food for local communities through its Local for Local community outreach program. All donations went to the Orange County Food Bank.
