Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian received $1 million to support the growth of its diabetes program. Dick and Mary Allen made the donation as part of the campaign for Hoag Diabetes Center and its future programs and services. The center is set to have an emphasis on pediatric services.

Hoag Memorial’s emergency room expansion project received a $1 million gift from Newport Beach’s Walter and Mary Frome. The gift is set to help expand and renovate the emergency ward to 51 rooms and six extra beds by 2011.

Executives from Southern California homebuilders and developers gathered to raise $1.8 million for City of Hope’s cancer research and treatment programs. Bruce Elieff, chief executive of Irvine-based developer SunCal Cos., received the Spirit of Life Award.

JSerra Catholic High School’s fifth annual Family Classic Cars Golf Tournament and Casino Night raised more than $320,000 for the school’s athletic programs. Family Classic Cars was the title sponsor of the fundraiser.

Carl and Cheryl Post of Laguna Beach gave $100,000 to South Coast Medical Center at the hospital’s fundraising gala. The Posts are supporters of Laguna Beach causes. Cheryl Post is a member of the Women’s Advisory Council and helped with the foundation’s fashion show.

Some 1,000 people helped raise $65,000 at the 22nd annual National Philanthropy Day Awards luncheon. Philanthropists, volunteers and donors who give time and money to causes were recognized. The OC Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals sponsored the event.

The San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce gave $4,000 to Mission San Juan Capistrano’s Adopt a Class program. The money raised will help provide fourth graders with a field trip and activities at the mission.

Mary Erickson Community Housing received $5,000 from the Wells Fargo Foundation. The money supports the expansion of the Regional Employer Assisted Collaborative Housing program. Wells Fargo also gave $5,000 to Jewish Family Services of OC for its Women Forward Program. The program fights poverty and helps people ages 40 to 65 re-enter the workforce after a major life crisis.

Albertsons Inc. donated $10,000 to the American Cancer Society as part of a series of events raising awareness about breast cancer. The In Your Community events focused on early detection and prevention and took place in Garden Grove and Orange.

Hearts of Montage gave a two-night stay worth $1,500 at the five-star Montage, Laguna Beach hotel to the annual Columbus Day Drive for Special Olympics. The fundraiser raised $60,000 and featured golf and dinner at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine.

Wellington Franchise Systems raised $80,000 at its national Cut-a-Thon in November. Wellington is the developer for Sport Clips in Orange County. Proceeds from the event allow American soldiers to call home this holiday season.

Hilton Anaheim donated 300 rooms for Snowball Express. The event gathers nearly 1,500 family members of fallen American service members. The hotel also donated meeting space. Families attended a special dinner in their honor, including a private performance by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band at the Grove in Anaheim.

Lake Forest-based Professional Community Management of California Inc. adopted the Aliso Viejo Library and donated 72 property management books. The donation is made possible through a grant from the Foundation of Community Association Research and Community Association Institute OC Chapter.

Merrill Lynch hosted its third annual Fashion, Philanthropy and Finance event at Nordstrom at the Irvine Spectrum Center. During the event, Merrill Lynch presented a $1,000 check to benefit the Women’s Cancer Research Foundation.
