The Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom Family Foundation gave $5 million to Orange County’s Pacific Symphony to support its Classics Series for five years, and to endow and name in perpetuity the Principal Pops Conductor Chair. Target Corp. was the title sponsor for the 2005 Symphony in the Cities community concert series, which provided free admission for OC families.

“CHOC Ahoy! Musical Hijinks on the High Seas” raised $480,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County. More than 100 Orange County business, civic and society leaders made up the 2005 theatrical cast.

Orange County United Way’s Keeping Kids on Track initiative received $473,750 from more than 700 attendees at the Real Estate and Building Industry luncheon.

Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. Inc. and Toyota Industries Corp. donated $300,000 to the American Red Cross. Much of the funds went to the Southern Asia earthquake and tsunami disaster relief efforts.

Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union awarded 45 students,high school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores,with 2005 Member Education Award scholarships of $500 each. The union provides $160,000 annually for educator and student programs.

Second Harvest’s Humanitarians Against Hunger event raised $75,575. The money will be used to launch three Kids Cafe programs at Boys and Girls Clubs in South County.

The Education Foundation for Orange County Schools awarded nearly 30 teachers with grants totaling more than $43,000. The Foundation is a joint venture between the Orange County Department of Education and Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union.

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian received $35,000 from the Breakfast with a Champion event, part of the Toshiba Senior Golf Tournament. Allergan Inc., based in Irvine, sponsored the event. The hospital received a total of $1.1 million from the breakfast and the tournament.

The Education for the Children Foundation gave a $25,000 grant to build a fitness center at Las Flores Middle School in Rancho Santa Margarita.

The Laguna Canyon Foundation received $5,000 in grants from Newport Beach-based Pacific Life Foundation for its new exhibit at the James and Rosemary Nix Nature Center in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.

Disneyland Resort donated two $5,000 grants, coordinated a food drive and scheduled several volunteer events with Orange County United Way’s Community Action Partners during the past year.

Noelle Marketing Group in Santa Ana bought $1,000 worth of Girl Scout cookies from Girl Scout Troop 1905 in Santa Ana.

Students from Corona del Mar High School, Newport Harbor High School and the Alternative Education Center were guests at a Mentor for a Day program. The event was sponsored by Irvine law firm Rus, Miliband & Smith and the Newport-Irvine Rotary Club. It brought together students and mentors for breakfast, lunch and a day at the workplace.



Hurricane Relief Efforts

Hines Horticulture Inc. is set to donate a portion of its sales in September to the American Red Cross. The Irvine-based nursery operator also organized an employee drive to give non-perishable goods to the Houston Food Bank, which is working with the American Red Cross.

Western clothier Boot Barn in Orange raised $32,000 for the American Red Cross. About 300 employees of Boot Barn, BootBarn.com and American Worker Las Vegas also voted to redirect funds for their company holiday party to the hurricane relief effort. The company has matched the gift.

Irvine architectural firm McLarand, Vasquez, Emsiek & Partners Inc., which is matching employee donations, said it has collected nearly $18,000 to be given to Santa Barbara-based Direct Relief International organization that specializes in providing medical supplies.

Independent multimedia company Orange County TV helped reunite hurricane victims by streaming short video messages from those relocated to the Houston Astrodome and other relief centers. The Newport Beach-based company has put the video messages on its Web site www.survivormessages.com.

Coldwell Banker Orange County raised more than $10,000 via its charitable organization Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Community Foundation. The funds donated by sales associates and employees at its Newport Beach office will be handed over to the American Red Cross.

Smith Micro Software Inc.’s Allume Systems Inc. unit will donate $1 of each Web site sale during a 30-day period to the American Red Cross and America’s Second Harvest charities from its fifth annual charity drive. Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro also is matching employee donations to the American Red Cross.
