BELIEVE THERE’S MAGIC IN THE STARS
New fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. at Disneyland; Friday and Saturday through April 14; nightly April 15 through September 4.
Billed as a “skytacular,” the 45 Years of Magic fireworks show is the largest ever undertaken by the Disney folks and the first time Disneyland has used pyrotechnics specifically choreographed to music. Even in last week’s blustery weather, the pyrotechnics were masterfully timed to both original music and well-known Disney classics, recorded by an 80-piece orchestra. There are a wealth of special effects, from introductory lasers beamed to the sky and a heart-shaped display, to crossing comets and, yes, an image of the head mouse himself. Tinker Bell makes her debut in a new outfit embedded with 1,000 LED lights, and some of the fireworks appear to actually sprinkle that Disney staple, pixie dust, over Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Computer-programmed and launched from 13 separate locations, the presentation is visible throughout a wider area of the park than past shows. And it never stops surprising, from beginning to end. Finally, OC has a millennium spectacular.
