Costa Mesa’s Emulex Corp., a maker of electronics for data networks, saw record revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 30.
Emulex counted revenue of $131 million, up 8% from the same period a year earlier.
Including charges for stock compensation and writedowns on assets and other items, the company posted profits of $18 million, versus a roughly $10 million loss in the year-ago quarter.
Excluding the charges, Emulex had profits of $28 million, up 18% from a year earlier.
Analysts were looking for profits of $26 million on sales of $131 million.
The company said it got a boost from several design wins.
“We expect continued momentum in the March quarter from design wins which have begun shipping recently and several more unannounced wins to further drive revenue and deliver on our diversification strategy,” said Chief Executive Jim McCluney.
Emulex gave guidance for the current quarter at the low end of analysts’ expectations. Its shares were flat in afterhours trading on a market value of $1.2 billion.
Emulex said it’s expecting revenue of $127 to $131 million in the current quarter.
Excluding charges, the company sees profits of $23 million to $25 million. Analysts are looking for profits of $25 million on sales of $129 million.
The company had a recent market value of about $1 billion.
