Medical device maker Cook Inc. said Friday it is suing Irvine’s Edwards Lifesciences Corp. over alleged patent infringement in Germany.
Bloomington, Ind.-based Cook, a subsidiary of medical device firm Cook Group, said it sued Edwards in a Dusseldorf district court. Cook alleges Edwards’ Sapien THV heart valve directly infringes on a German patent Cook holds.
Cook said it’s asking the German court to issue a cease and desist order to prevent Edwards from manufacturing, importing, exporting or selling the valve.
Cook is also asking for an accounting of all commercial activities for the allegedly infringing product and an unspecified judgment for damages.
In a statement, Edwards said it hadn’t seen a copy of the lawsuit and otherwise declined to comment on the news.
