Michael Mussallem, chief executive of Irvine heart valve maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp., is the new chairman of AdvaMed, a Washington, D.C.-based medical device trade group.
Before taking the position, Mussallem served as chairman of AdvaMed’s board committee on payment and healthcare delivery.
In a release, Mussallem, who is 55, said he would be “dedicated first to doing what’s best for patients” during his chairmanship of AdvaMed’s board.
He also said he’d work to increase awareness of the benefits of innovation in medical technology, enhance the industry’s ethics and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
Scott Garrett, chief executive of Fullerton-based medical testing company Beckman Coulter Inc., and James Mazzo, chief executive of Advanced Medical Optics, a Santa Ana maker of eye surgery devices and contact lens solutions, also play prominent roles within AdvaMed.
