BIG Supplying Content to Ovitz-Backed Web Venture



Post-Agency Gets Kudos for Diedrich Labels; Go2 Systems Signs Johnny Miller

Broadband Interactive Group (BIG), Irvine, is providing its extreme sports content (skateboarding, wakeboarding, BMS, etc.) to Scour.com’s “Film/Video” section. The two companies also will co-brand and cross-market on specific projects, targeting the Gen Y demographic. Scour, an entertainment search site based in Los Angeles, is backed by Michael Ovitz, the former Walt Disney Co. president and founder of Creative Artists Agency, and Los Angeles-based The Yucaipa Cos., owner of Alliance Entertainment, Golden State Foods, CheckOut.com (with Ovitz) and other Net ventures.

Post-Agency Labels Win Kudos

In an effort to boost its brand against Starbucks, the No. 1 coffee retailer, Diedrich Coffee hired Post-Agency Advertising to redesign its whole bean packaging and coffee labels. Post-Agency also designed packaging for Diedrich’s new chocolate line, which includes chocolate-covered espresso beans.

The new design won Post-Agency an Award of Distinction at The Communicator Awards and a gold at the Summit Creative Awards. In addition, the agency won a silver and a bronze at the Summit Awards for Diedrich Coffee’s Chocolate Line packaging and a full-color print ad, respectively.

Post-Agency also finished the label design for Irvine-based Sorrells Pickard’s new gourmet peanut butter, which recently launched in California grocery stores.

Go, Johnny, Go

Go2 Systems, Irvine, has signed on 52-year-old golf commentator and PGA tour Hall-of-Famer Johnny Miller as spokesperson for the company’s radio, TV and print advertising campaign. Go2 offers a patented location directory service for wireless phones that allows travelers to find nearby products and services.

Why Miller?

“Johnny personifies the business traveler,” says a company release.

Book corner:

UCI physics professor Gregory Benford has written a science fiction book called “Eater.” The book, published by Avon Eos, was recently reviewed in Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. His other novel was “Timescape” Richard Chang, president of Irvine-based Richard Chang Associates, has a new book called “The Passion Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide to Discovering, Developing, and Living Your Passion.” The book, published by San Francisco-based Jossey-Bass, is about filling up your “passion deficit” in work and life Gary Goldhammer, a former vice president of public relations firm Nelson Communications Group in Irvine, is working on a new book entitled “Tilt,” a fictional account involving the death penalty. Goldhammer, also a former OC Metro columnist, is now vice president of content and managing editor for shine.com. The Marina del Rey-based web site is a Yahoo! for charities, Goldhammer said.

The Gable Group, Irvine, has been retained to handle Oinke.com’s public relations. Oinke is a business auction site that matches lenders and borrowers. Oinke uses FCB Southern California for all its other marketing and advertising needs Morgan Marketing and Public Relations, Irvine, will handle public relations and promotions for 7-Eleven’s Los Angeles market Lawrence, Mayo & Ponder, Newport Beach, won a Telly Award in the 21st annual national competition for the “public service in regional TV and multi-market cable” category. The entry, called Couch, was created for the Governor’s Office of the Secretary for Education (READ California). The Telly awards showcase non-network and cable TV commercials ShowBizKid.com, Newport Beach, is sponsoring a two-boat team in the upcoming Pacific and National Championship races. The sponsorship is part of the company’s national marketing campaign to introduce its entertainment-industry web portal. The site links directors, producers and casting professionals to actors, models and entertainers Creative Media Recording, an audio production studio, will create six radio public service announcements for the Orange County Special Olympics’ Vince Ferragamo Celebrity Golf Classic. CMR is also doing work for the National Missing Children’s Locate Center and United Way of Orange County South County Business Digest hired Sistonia Corp., Orange, to rebuild its magazine web site. The site, www.mybizdigest.com, went live last week OC’s Public Relations Society of America is hosting a roundtable session April 20 at the Doubletree Hotel in Costa Mesa. The topics will include online media buys, webcasting and news distribution via the web. The agency would not disclose the value of the contract The Orange County Visitor Bureaus Coastal Cleanup Coalition, was recognized by the California Travel and Tourism Commission and the California Division of Tourism for the best community service program in 1999. Promotion of the event was handled by Trademark Marketing & Graphics, Laguna Beach.
