Beckman Coulter Inc., a maker of diagnostic medical testing equipment and supplies, is cutting 84 jobs in Orange County, according to a company spokeswoman.
Fifty-two of the job cuts are from Brea, while the remaining jobs are in neighboring Fullerton.
Beckman is in the process of moving from its longtime Fullerton headquarters to Brea.
The local cuts are part of a larger restructuring that sources familiar with the company have put at more than 200 workers companywide.
Beckman has 12,400 employees in total.
The job cuts are related to Beckman’s move to Brea and to the integration of its $800 million buy of a laboratory diagnostics business from Japan’s Olympus Corp., which was completed last month.
Beckman said it hopes to have the vast majority of its operations moved from Fullerton, where it’s been since the mid-1950s, to Brea by the end of the year.
