Irvine drug maker Allergan Inc. on Tuesday promoted Jeffrey L. Edwards as its new chief financial officer after his predecessor said he is leaving to join a San Diego company.
Edwards, who also has the title of executive vice president, finance and business development, replaces Eric K. Brandt, who is set to become chief executive of Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Edwards had served as vice president of corporate development since 2002 and has worked at Allergan since 1993.
He previously worked at Banque Paribas and Security Pacific National Bank.
Brandt’s resignation is effective Sept. 5. He had worked at Allergan since 1999.
Avanir is working on developing drugs for treating chronic diseases such as central nervous system disorders and cardiovascular disease. The company has a market value of about $350 million.
