The California Institute for Telecomm-unications and Information Technology,a joint effort of the University of California’s Irvine and San Diego campuses with facilities at both schools, last week got another $25 million in capital funds from the state.

The institute was formed last year to research and develop technology related to the global information infrastructure. More than 220 professors and senior researchers from the two campuses are collaborating on interdisciplinary projects.

In total the state has pledged $100 million to the institute, while $140 million has been pledged by corporations such as Microsoft, IBM and Sun Microsystems as well as OC-based Conexant Systems Inc., Broadcom Corp. and Intersil Corp. and San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc.
