Deliotte Makes IMPACT

On June 7, more than 400 employees of the Orange County Deliotte offices participated in the company’s IMPACT Day, a companywide event that helps charities, schools and other nonprofit organizations throughout the country. At Taft Elementary School in Santa Ana, nearly 200 Deloitte employees held a student math competition, painted three murals, organized and added books to the library, and planted a garden, among other activities. At KidWorks in Santa Ana, 65 Deliotte employees gutted the interior of the KidWorks building, saving the organization labor costs for the building’s upcoming renovation. Deliotte volunteers also planted a garden, laid tile and installed bike racks. At Girls Inc., volunteers planted a garden, installed picnic benches and served in other ways. At Laura’s House, 20 volunteers installed shelving and doorstops and served in other ways. And at St. Cecilia School in Tustin, Deloitte employees repainted basketball court lines. Sixth- and seventh-graders participated in a Junior Achievement competition led by Deliotte volunteers.

Feeding a Need

Nearly 130 employees of Irvine-based Pacific Alternative Asset Management Co. celebrated the end of the annual company week by working at the Second Annual Harvest Food Bank on Aug. 2. The volunteers, led by Paamco Chief Executive Jane Buchan and the firm’s partners, spent the day bagging 4,400 pounds of freshly picked plums, sorting 16,000 pounds of donated food, and unpacking 35,000 pounds of food and other goods donated by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The volunteers loaded more than 100 bags of canned goods and other nonperishables.

Breakfast of Champions

The ALS Association’s Orange County chapter hosted guests from 26 companies at its annual Corporate VIP Breakfast on Aug. 5. Dave & Buster’s, El Pollo Loco and Irvine Company were among the companies represented. The event, held at the Oliver Café inside the Equinox Gym in Irvine, served a dual purpose: to recognize local business leaders whose contributions to the association have made a significant impact on the organization’s success; and to spur corporate involvement in the foundation’s Walk to Defeat ALS, which will take place Oct. 19 at Mason Regional Park in Irvine. The four award winners were Rob Yardley, president of the George Yardley Co.; Tom Motherway, principal at LBA Realty; Tony Prince, owner of Prince Insurance; and Mike Gross, owner of A&T Wheelchair. State Sen. Mimi Walters, R-Laguna Niguel, presented the awards.

Carnival of Companies Help Out

In-N-Out Burger, Radio Disney, Wells Fargo and many other companies came together Aug. 17 to sponsor the Illumination Foundation’s Carnival for Kids. The event raised money to support the Children’s Resource Center, which gives homeless children a place to learn, play and eat. Proceeds will help keep the center up and running.

Hundreds Do Outreach

Nearly 700 Orange County Pacific Investment Management Co. employees participated in the Pimco Foundation’s fifth annual Global Week of Volunteering from July 21-27. The week is part of the foundation’s year-round Volunteer Initiative. Orange County Pimco employees volunteered at 25 local nonprofit organizations.
