Blizzard Entertainment Firing 140 in Irvine

Owner Microsoft trimming gaming division workforce

Video game maker Blizzard Entertainment said it will be laying off 140 employees at its Irvine offices next month.
In addition, Blizzard has told California officials it will be laying off 253 employees in Los Angeles county, according to the state’s WARN layoff notifications.
The cutbacks come as Microsoft Corp., the new owner of Blizzard’s parent company Activision Blizzard, trims its gaming division workforce.
The 140 layoffs in Orange County cover a range of positions, including engineers, game designers, and artists.
