Terran Orbital Corp. (NYSE: LLAP), a satellite maker with a large presence in Irvine, said today there was a successful deployment of the Capstone spacecraft into a lunar transfer orbit.
Terran Orbital designed, built, and integrated Capstone — short for Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment.
Capstone is flying a mission to the moon in support of NASA’s Artemis program. With deployment complete, Terran Orbital will now commence the satellite’s mission operations.
The Capstone deployment came from a Rocket Lab Photon spacecraft.
Capstone is owned and operated by Advanced Space on behalf of NASA.
