NB Firm to Provide Wireless Infrastructure for 9/11 Memorial

Newport Beach-based Mobilitie LLC will install one of the nation’s largest underground distributed antenna systems at the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York City.

The 110,000-square-foot site, which chronicles the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history and honors the 2,983 people killed there, concluded its last day of dedication Thursday morning in a ceremony attended by President Barack Obama and several other prominent politicians, victims and their families, and emergency response personnel.

Mobilitie will provide the cellular wireless infrastructure at the museum that will allow visitors to connect to their mobile phones, tablets and other devices.

The site will feature downloadable mobile apps that enhance the experience at the museum or from home.

“Mobile is really a critical part of a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum,” said Marc Cima, chief technology officer of the 9/11 Memorial.

The museum displays dozens of artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, presenting intimate stories of survival, loss and dedication related to the attack and the 1993 bombing. It also explores the global impact of 9/11 and its ongoing significance.

The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, features two reflecting pools formed in the images of the Twin Towers and a plaza of trees.

The museum, located on eight of the 16 acres of the former World Trade Center site, is scheduled to open to the public May 21.

Mobilitie is believed to be the country’s largest supplier of DAS for stadiums and other venues where tens of thousands of smartphone customers can check highlights, post videos or pictures to Facebook or other social networking sites, and make calls within a dedicated area.

Other locations featuring the company’s products include the Honda Center in Anaheim, Tropicana Field, home of MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays; Arrowhead Stadium, the home field of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs; and Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.
