Mullen Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: MULN) said it signed a partnership with Israel-based atmospheric drinking water device company Watergen Inc. to develop in-vehicle air-to-water technology that will provide clean water for EV passengers to consume.
The technology, which can generate a supply of hot and cold water, will convert up to five liters of drinking water a day from the air, according to officials at the Brea-based EV maker. The resulting water will be usable for both passenger and vehicle consumption.
Mullen said it will test the new feature in the first quarter of 2023. The company plans to add the technology to its fleet of EV cargo vans, officials said.
“Mullen will be the first automotive company to co-develop this technology with Watergen for our entire portfolio of electric vehicles,” Mullen CEO David Michery said in a statement. “The opportunities for air-to-water vehicle applications are endless, and Mullen is proud to partner with Watergen on this game-changing technology.”
Shares in Mullen little changed as of Wednesday at 67 cents apiece, giving it a $338 million market cap.
