Entrepreneurs Can’t Quit, Even in a Pandemic

Some OC entrepreneurs haven’t let the pandemic stop them from continuing to innovate and build.

Randy Teffeteller and Joe Manzella formed Tableside Partners Inc., recently acquiring two new restaurants in Phoenix and Scottsdale in Arizona.

Tableside will handle investments and provide consulting services to other restaurateurs. Manzella launched the Taps Fish House & Brewery concept originally in 1999 in Brea and has since grown it to two more locations, while also opening the Taps Brewery & Barrel Room and The Catch restaurants. Last year, he brought on Teffeteller as CEO to lead the portfolio as it looked to expand and launch new concepts—plans that are still in the works, albeit now behind schedule due to the pandemic.

Still, that didn’t stop the two from closing escrow last month on two restaurants that will become Taphouse Kitchen. Both locations are expected to open later this month.

Jim Jannard, founder of Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc. and Irvine digital camera company Red Digital Cinema Camera Co., was quick to hop out of retirement and get back to inventing and designing with a new project, the details of which he’s remained largely mum on. The visionary entrepreneur disclosed to his Instagram followers he is working on the endeavor with son and Red Digital head of marketing and creative Jamin Jannard.

Jannard had originally retired from Red and the Hydrogen One smartphone project in October, moved to Saigon and said he was playing golf almost every day.

“This time is just for fun. No pressure,” Jannard noted in his post, saying what they planned to produce would be for friends.
