Broadcom’s Samueli Makes ‘Giving Pledge’

Broadcom Corp. cofounder and Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli has joined a growing list of billionaires who pledged to give at least half their wealth to charity.

Samueli, who also owns the management company that runs the Honda Center in Anaheim, was among 12 new members who signed Bill Gates’ and Warren Buffett’s “Giving Pledge,” which aims to recruit the super wealthy to give a significant portion of their fortunes to philanthropic efforts.

The 81 billionaires on the list also include Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, founder of Palo Alto-based luxury electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors Inc. and Hawthorne-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp.

Samueli and his wife Susan have long been active in philanthropy in through the Corona del Mar-based Samueli Foundation, along with other efforts.

Samueli was No. 6 on the Business Journal’s list of OC’s Wealthiest in August with $2.3 billion. He was also recently featured on Forbes’ global list of wealthiest billionaires.
