THREATS TO CORPORATE REPUTATIONS

Survey by Hill and Knowlton of CEOs and presidents of 600 companies nationwide.

Half (49%) of those questioned said media criticism of their company is a top threat to its reputation. Media criticism was considered more of a threat to their company’s reputation than unethical corporate behavior (42%) or adverse court judgments (35%). Two-thirds of those surveyed said social-responsibility initiatives are important for good corporate perceptions. The events of Sept. 11 have had little impact on corporations’ commitment to social responsibility, with almost 80% of the respondents saying their companies’ commitment to social causes has remained the same since the attacks. Two-thirds (67%) said the events of Sept. 11 have had no impact on communication between the CEO and company employees.
