Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc.’s auto sales slumped to the lowest level in more than three years in November.
The automaker sold 19,221 vehicles last month, down 40% from a year earlier. It’s a worsening slump for Hyundai, which saw October sales fall by 30%.
Until recently, Hyundai had been faring better than other automakers in what is the worst industry downturn in recent memory.
For the year through November, Hyundai’s sales are down 10%. Overall auto sales are down 13% for the same period.
For the past two months, Hyundai’s declines have been in line with or exceeded those of the overall industry.
The company, part of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co., plans to reduce production by 20,000 vehicles this month, about 13% of its monthly domestic output.
Hyundai is looking to a holiday sales push to boost business for several models.
