Rady First to Offer Disney-Themed MRI Tech

Will roll out to 1,000+ hospitals worldwide

Rady Children’s Health Orange County will be the first hospital in the U.S. to begin offering Philips Ambient Experience technology for MRIs with Disney-themed content.

It’s a result of a partnership between Royal Philips and The Walt Disney Company, announced today, to incorporate Disney characters and stories into Philips’ existing Ambient Experience design concept, which uses calming lighting, sound and visual elements to help reduce patient anxiety during scans.

“By merging state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging precision with the magic of Disney storytelling, we are not just imaging the body, but we are actively protecting the emotional well-being of the child and creating a positive perception of healthcare for all future imaging needs,” Dr. Azam Eghbal, medical director of pediatric radiology at Rady, told the Business Journal via email.

“This technology transforms a passive and sterile medical event to an engaging, child-centric experience while reducing anxiety, motion and the need for sedation which can have significant impact on patient care and efficiency.”

The Disney Ambient Experience Themes will roll out to more than 1,000 hospitals worldwide, including more than 500 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and nearly 250 in the U.S.reduce patient anxiety and claustrophobia during stressful medical imaging procedures
