Pyott Named Next Chair of California Healthcare

David Pyott, chief executive of Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc., has been named chairman-elect of the California Healthcare Institute’s board of directors.

Pyott is to succeed Carl Hull, whose term is expected to end at the end of this year.

California Healthcare is a La Jolla-based nonprofit public policy research and advocacy group that represents the state’s biomedical industry, with 275 biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical companies as members.

Allergan is the largest company based in Orange County in terms of market capitalization, at more than $26 billion.

Pyott joined Allergan as president and chief executive in 1998, and was elected chairman in 2001. He has been a member of California Healthcare’s board since 1998, and served as chairman of the organization in 2003 and 2004.

California Healthcare elected several new members to the board, including: Daniel McIntyre, senior vice president at Weston, Mass.-based Biogen Idec; and Maulik Nanavaty, senior vice president at Natick, Mass.-based Boston Scientific Corp.
