Planet DDS Buys Cloud 9 Software

Says will expand into orthodontic, pediatric care

Newport Beach-based Planet DDS, a provider of cloud-based dental software, said it’s acquired Cloud 9 Software from the investment firm Accel-KKR. Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

Planet DDS said the acquisition of Roswell, GA.-based Cloud 9 adds experience in orthodontic and pediatric practice management software.

“The addition of Cloud 9 Software deepens our understanding and ability to serve the unique needs of orthodontic and pediatric care practices,” Planet DDS Chief Executive Eric Giesecke said in a statement. “Our consistent growth and leadership in cloud-based dental software has always been rooted in our ability to anticipate the needs of our customers.”

Planet DDS, which is backed by private equity investors Level Equity and Aquiline Capital Partners, says it provides cloud-enabled dental software solutions to over 10,000 practices in North America with more than 60,000 users.

Founded in 2009, Cloud 9 Software currently serves more than 2,900 locations.
