Hoag, UCI After Alzheimer’s Cure

Researchers at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and University of California-Irvine are taking divergent tacks on Alzheimer’s work.

A team of researchers at UCI is working with mice injected with human cells to study microglia—human brain immune cells, where Alzheimer’s happens.

Hoag’s work, led by William Shankle, wants to see whether the afflictions of Alzheimer’s can be prevented by keeping one’s mind active.

For more on these efforts, see the Aug. 12 print edition of the Business Journal.
