Biolase Gets New CEO

Irvine-based Biolase Inc. (Nasdaq: BIOL) on Aug. 8 named Todd Norbe president and chief executive.

Norbe is a dental industry veteran who was most recently president of North America at dental product maker Kavo Kerr Group LLC, a unit of Washington D.C.-based Danaher Corp. (NYSE: DHR), which has operations in OC

Biolase specializes in dental laser and has a noncore dental imaging portfolio.

Norbe replaced John Beaver, who had been interim chief executive for four months after CEO Harold Flynn left the company in April. Chief Financial Officer Beaver was promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president.

Flynn had been chief executive since July 2015 and was unable to stem the company’s losses.

Biolase this week reported second quarter revenue of $12.2 million, a decline from $12.6 million a year ago. Beaver said international revenue increased 13%.

Shares traded 12% higher to a $26 million market cap.
